As a key engineering project in Hebei Province, it has injected new impetus into the creation of a new hub of innovative, green and high-quality development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
In January, Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province is still covered with snow. Seen from a high place and from afar, Hailiutu Township of Zhangbei County is home to a whole piece of black and bright PV modules which look like two huge wings unfolded on the vast land. These PV modules convert the light energy into electricity which constantly flows to Hebei Province and the neighboring cities, adding warmth to life in this cold winter.
Zhangbei County, with an average altitude of more than 1,400 meters, is rich in light and heat resources. Ranking first in the province and at the forefront of the country in terms of total installed capacity of renewable energy, Zhangbei County is the earliest to develop the new energy industry in Zhangjiakou. Relying on excellent natural resources, Zhangbei County has firmly seized the important opportunity of the construction of a national renewable energy demonstration zone, formed a development system including wind power, PV power, energy storage, photothermal and biomass, and built up a full-chain development pattern of “power generation, transmission, storage, use, testing, equipment manufacturing, scientific research and demonstration”.
In the past decade or so, with policy subsidies, the PV industry has reduced its costs significantly, as evidenced by the continuous reduction of raw material costs, the continuous improvement of battery efficiency and module output power, and the fact that grid parity is an imminent reality in some areas. Zhangbei Hengfeng’s 500,000-kW grid parity project, as a key construction project in Hebei Province, has a total installed capacity of 500MW, with a total investment of about RMB 2.9 billion. Suntech has provided 550W and 555W high-efficiency PV modules for the project, which enriches the diversity of local energy resources and promotes the diversification of regional energy structure.
